How to play high B on the recorder
The fingering for high B on a soprano (descant) recorder, with baroque fingering: Thumb pinched (half open), the left pointer and middle fingers on holes 1 and 2, hole 3 open, and the right pointer and middle fingers on holes 4 and 5.
Very high notes can need a slightly different fingering from one recorder to another: if it sounds out of tune, check the chart that came with your recorder.

Thumb hole half covered (pinched), holes 1 2 4 5 covered
How to play it
- High B is high G# with one more finger: keep the pinched thumb and holes 1, 2 and 4, and add your right middle finger on hole 5.
- High notes need faster air, not harder blowing: keep the breath steady and the thumb gap small.
Why it squeaks or sounds wrong
- If you hear high G#, hole 5 isn't fully covered.
- If it squeaks or won't sound, the thumb gap is too wide: roll the thumb back a little.
Free, in your browser: it listens as you play and shows which finger to fix.
