How to play high C# on the recorder
The fingering for high C# on a soprano (descant) recorder, with baroque fingering: Thumb hole open, and the left pointer and middle fingers on holes 1 and 2. Every other hole is open.
high C#
Thumb hole open, holes 1 2 covered
How to play it
- High C# (C sharp) is high D with one more finger: lift the thumb off the back hole as for high D, and put your pointer finger down on hole 1.
- It's the same on baroque and German recorders. It shows up in songs in D major, just below high D.
Why it squeaks or sounds wrong
- If you hear A, the thumb is still covering the back hole: lift it.
- If you hear high D, hole 1 isn't covered.
Free, in your browser: it listens as you play and shows which finger to fix.
